"India is the only country in the world where people fight to be called backward".These were the words of Mr.Narayanamurthy(Infosys),which is one of the best phrases to describe the 'legal' social discrimination existing in our so-called democratic state.You are 'titled' as backward,and you are getting the best of the opportunities available in the society,irrespective of your merits(or demerits).Incrdible India!
Let me show you some of the regulations I saw when I was going through the annexure of a BSNL recruitment :
c) Age: - Management Trainee(External) – 30 years, as on 1.8.2009
However, this age is relaxable as per standing instructions on this subject for:-
For Scheduled Castes & Scheduled Tribes upto 5 years;
For OBC Candidates upto 3 years;
[WHY,ARE THESE GUYS 3 OR 5 YEARS OLD WHEN THEY ARE BORN?]
10. No Fee payable by SC/ST/PH
Applicants belonging to SC/ST/PH categories only are exempted from the examination fee.
[PLEASE DON'T TELL ME THAT ALL OF SC/ST ARE STILL BPL WHEN ALL OF OTHERS ABOVE]
11. Traveling Allowance
11.1. The applicants belonging to SC/ST categories will be entitled to T.A. as per provisions of Ministry of Finance(Deptt. of Expenditure) O.M. No.19014/3/77-E.IV (B) dated 17.02.1978.
[OH,ONLY THEY MUST BE TRAVELLING,OTHERS ARE TAKING EXAMINATION AT HOME]
I am not intending to mitigate that there is no need of financial assistance or reservation for the needed,but just trying to point out if those who are receiving these benefits today are The needed.Simply because one does not belong to a list of castes does not mean that he is devoid of any chances(It does sound exactly the reverse of what we studied in history books right?).It is so sad to see that a person ranked 30,000 is getting a merit seat for a professional degree while another with 10,000 is not,isn't it?

this is a good and hot topic to carry on with discussion.....but unless and until some of the persons, say a diplomat or a good social responsible,economic seeker comes as a politician and take some active steps to reduce reservations, this discussion are going to continue for ever and ever and we end in frustration....
not only that,it is a himalayan task to take away thise reservations,while it is so easy to start...
exactly.......[:)]
but can be abolished if they are really determined.....
